09/09/2018 – 16th Sunday after Pentecost
September 13, 2018
Jesus is tired. Jesus just wants a little alone time. Jesus just wants a little peace. He is completely and totally God-100%, but he is also totally and completely human, experiencing all the same human emotions and needs that we all do. So when the Syrophoenician woman begs him to heal her daughter of an unclean spirit, he isn’t the usually gracious kind Jesus we expect to see. However, in her insistence and request, Jesus recognizes her faith-a desperate faith that compels her to continue to ask on behalf of her little child. Jesus isn’t some divine Santa Claus figure fulfilling our every wish. Instead, Jesus is our Savior-the one we cling to and have faith in when we are in the midst of the worst sadness, our most desperate need, our most confusing and overwhelming moments. Jesus is our Savior-today, and all the way to heaven.
