(Due to Hurricane Ian The Jug in the Narthex is well not in the Narthex! Should you wish to donate to this worthy cause please contact Deacon Jill Meade 941-350-5209)
The large jug, which holds a prominent place in the narthex every Saturday evening and Sunday morning, is a fund raising vehicle based on hunger. We are blessed that few people in Hope Church have experienced desperate hunger. Unfortunately we are surrounded by hungry people in our very own community of southwest Florida. One of the ways our Hope family meets that need is to grow fresh vegetables in gardens visible to everyone as you drive past the church on Hopewell Ave. Our jug is based on matching our lifestyle with the life styles of the homeless. Every time we sit down at the table we are asked to contribute 2 pennies for each person that sits around our table. Two people living in a house eating three meals a day amounts to 42 cents a week. Less than a half dollar a week is the reminder and if you are faithful to the cause you will contribute 21.90 a year. This money is turned into seeds, fertilizer and other garden necessities so that our church can raise and contribute great fresh vegetables. Volunteers are always needed to plant, tend and harvest these gardens. If you can volunteer your time to seed, weed, water, harvest or deliver foods you are welcome. No contribution is too small. All are welcome. Help us fill up our jug quickly. With 2 cents per meal, 150 members can contribute $3285.00 a year, and we will witness a miracle.
Below, members at Hope try to donate 2 cents per meal to feed the hungry.
