In our gospel from John this week, we have one of the most beloved pieces of Scripture of all times-John 3:16. Martin Luther referred to this as the gospel in a nutshell, meaning that everything we need to know about God and God’s love for us through Jesus is summed up in these few words. What is significant is this: God so loved the world that He gave his only Son to die on the cross so that the world might be saved. It wasn’t just for Church folks or Christians. It wasn’t just for good folks and those who follow God’s Will. It was for the WORLD-even for those who don’t know God, don’t love God, or could care less about God. That’s amazing grace-wonderful grace-love that is offered so that we might live forever with God. Look at the cross!!!! For God SO loved the world-for God SO loved US! Amen.
