In our gospel, Jesus tells a parable about a wedding feast. As a direct result from his confrontations with the Jewish Leaders, this parable tells us that the kingdom would be taken away from those who don’t produce kingdom fruits (we heard that last week and this week illustrates that point). Since the original guests disrespected the King at the wedding feast, the invitation was extended to everyone-and a motley crew of good and bad folks showed up. One guest didn’t wear the wedding garment and was cast out. Jesus is telling us that while the kingdom of God is open to all and all are welcome, there are conditions to attendance for us. We are expected, as St. Paul reminds us, to “put on” Christ and be clothed in his righteousness as baptized people who follow him. We are to BE Christ to each other-and to celebrate our participation in the feast as members of the kingdom of God. Blessings abound at the celebration in the kingdom!
