STATION X: Jesus is Stripped of his Garments
At the site of the crucifixion, Jesus is stripped of everything-clothing, privacy, dignity. Some in the crowd turn away, unable to look at their Lord, or indeed anyone, suffer in this way. Some stand there to jeer and gloat, enjoying his humiliation and pain. In Jesus, we see the indignities suffered by many around our world, victims exposed to abuse, torture, and oppression. In Jesus, God shows that he is irrevocably and unreservedly on the side of the victims. And as followers of Jesus, we are invited to stand in solidarity with the world’s victims, too. These are our brothers and sisters-the poor, the sick, the lonely, and the forgotten-those who stand naked and defenseless before the powers of this world. So the question is-how can we bring the love of Jesus to those who need it most?
