As the Gospel for Sunday shared: A fig tree is in the garden and not producing-hasn’t produced for three years. The owner says: “Cut it down!” But the gardener says: “Please wait-give it one more year-let’s put fertilizer around and if it bears fruit, well and good-but if not, then you can cut it down.” You and I are fig trees-both individually and as a congregation. We are invited to produce the fruit God calls us to produce-nothing more, nothing less. We have been through the tough years, the times of trial. We have not only endured, but I think we are stronger because of what we have experienced. Now is the time to get to producing-to get to doing the work God has empowered and invited us to do as together we serve God and share Christ’s love with all. With Jesus encouraging us, with God empowering us, and with the Holy Spirit directing us, let’s get to work!
