As Jesus continues to speak to the crowds in this 6th chapter of John about his being the bread of life and that they must eat his body and drink his blood in order to abide in him, some of the crowds, followers also called disciples, turned away-the faith stuff was just too hard. How often aren’t we in the same position? Life gets tough and we are hoping for things to be different and we start to lose heart and faith that God is in charge in Jesus. However, we can be empowered in our faith as we look to Peter and the other eleven-what set them apart was that they KNEW to whom to look for the words of eternal life-they KNEW to keep close and keep looking to Jesus who indeed IS the Word of eternal life. Worship, prayer, discipleship, fellowship in the gathering of God’s people centered on Word and Sacrament can be the help we need to join with Peter and the other disciples to keep the faith in the One who is the Word of eternal life.
