Once again, we hear this description of Jesus as the bread of life. Bread has always been a staple in people’s diets-it is a simple but universal source of nutrition. Jesus, however, is speaking of a bread that satisfies not just for the moment or the day, but for eternal life. The Bread of Life is Jesus-His Very Body broken and his Blood spilled on the cross for you and me so that we might have eternal life. Eating of his Body and Blood unites us with Jesus and each other-we eat his Body and Blood so that we might BECOME his Body and Blood for the sake of the world so that we can continue to be led by the Spirit to serve God and share Christ’s love with all.
