On this Feast of Pentecost, the 50th day after Easter, we celebrate with the whole church the arrival of the Holy Spirit as we hear it described in Acts 2. The Spirit came as a mighty Wind, as the Breath of God, as the Spirit of God as Jesus had promised. This Spirit, in Hebrew “ruach”, is the same Spirit that moved over the waters at creation, breathing life into our planet, as well into the dust God used to form us as humans. This same Spirit is the one who has called, gathered, enlightened, and made holy God’s people of every generation, energizing and mobilizing us with joy and enthusiasm to go out into the world to share the message of God’s love through Jesus. The Spirit of God, planted in us at our Baptism, gives us the privilege to LOVE in Jesus’ name-and to be the people we are called to be as we are led by the Spirit to serve God and share Christ’s love with all. Come, Holy Spirit, come!
